The Trail Blazers season is so close, we can taste it! The annual media day event is September 28, while the ever exciting Fan Fast is October 4! That's not all though, because on October 7 we get our first of four preseason games, as the Blazers welcome the Golden State Warriors to Moda Center! Game 1 of 82 - October 21 vs the Suns. So, with Blazers basketball right around the corner, what are you looking forward to most? Well, Chris Burkhardt let's us know what he is looking forward to most, with the latest episode of The 19:77 Podcast.

A few days ago we released a short video with the Rose City Central crew as a chance to get to know the names and faces behind the project. You can watch that video here. Unfortunatley we were missing a member at the time. The one and only, Jamie Hudson! Jamie had some travel issues that evening and had to postpone, but now, back with her boots on the ground in PDX, she is carving out the time! So, we sat down with the host of The Scoop to talk about her time as a reporter, what she has learned on her journey, and most importanly what fans can expect with the latest incarnation of The Scoop. Welcome to Rose City Central (RCC). A network built by the Rose City, for the Rose City. Here at RCC, we want to bring you wall-to-wall coverage of the Trail Blazers. We want to hit every angle. We want to leave no stone unturned. We want to engage you in ways that you want. What we plan is a unique take on the independent sports blog. How we do that is by creating a network of podcasts that all live under one roof. Here at RCC, you will have all sorts of podcasts dropping every week. Four podcasts. Multiple hosts. One audience! But it won't stop at just podcasts. We will have unique video content, and of course written articles for you to feast your eyes on. The hope is to create a special community here in the Rose City and beyond. Right now we are Trail Blazers focused. But the possibility to expand to the Fire, Thorns, Timbers and more are very much on the table. No dream is too big. No story is too small. We will be here to tell them all. There are memories that fade, and there are memories that calcify into personal mythology. Mine happened on a Friday in the winter of 1990, somewhere between a foot of Pacific Northwest slush and a fourth-quarter Portland Trail Blazers beatdown of the Boston Celtics. I was a kid in Beaverton, which meant winter operated on a very specific, very fragile logic: the entire regional infrastructure could be brought to its knees by an amount of snow that a Minnesotan would call "Tuesday." On Thursday, February 15, 1990, the sky obliged. Portland recorded 2.3 inches of snow that day, which means I didn’t have to go to school on Friday. I spent the day sledding down Danielle Rd in Beaverton with my buddies, the whole day looking forward to the Trail Blazers game that night. There is something about Gen X snowdays that were extra Thunderdome. I’m amazed I didn’t get concussed more, but I digress. That night the Trail Blazers hosted the Boston Celtics at Memorial Coliseum. This was back when home games were radio only, so I listened to the great Bill Schonely paint a picture with his words of that entire game on the basement stereo. The Blazers won, 120–101. This wasn't some nothing Celtics team, either. This was still Larry Bird's Boston, a franchise that had spent most of the decade treating the rest of the league like a rented Dodge Dart. Meanwhile this Blazers squad (Clyde, Terry, Buck, Duck, & Jerome) was the same Rip City machine that would go all the way to the Finals that spring. So when we beat them, that late in the season? That's the night it clicked for me that we might actually be good for a few years. That's my formative memory: the moment I'd point to and say, that's when I became a fan. Sure, I’d been happy they’d won games in the past. That win gave me what I’d describe as joy. Thirty-plus years later, Beaverton still can't handle snow, the Celtics are still a measuring stick, and somewhere in me there's still a kid on a couch who thinks two inches of snow and a blowout over Boston is basically "best day ever" material. I'm grown now, a parent, apathetic about most things, but I still get up for Trail Blazers games with the same energy 8th grade me did. Cheers all, I hope your day is as awesome as you are. We have shared lots of content, and there has been a lot to digest, but the love we have seen has not gone unappreciated. As we have stated, we really want to focus on creating some great video content to live on YouTube throughout the year. To get the ball rolling, the crew got together to film a video just for you all to get to know the people behind the brand. Unfortunately, Jamie was not available. Welcome into the 19:77 Podcast, a podcast that runs 19 minutes and 77 seconds in honor of your 1977 World Champion Portland Trail Blazers... Sorry, that is the podcast intro. What was I thinking? I'm not here to record a podcast, I am here to tell you all about the 19:77 and the man behind it — Me, Chris Burkhardt. Many of you know me, but for those of you who are new here, welcome in! So who am I? I am Chris Burkhardt, a digital media producer (and then some) who has covered the Trail Blazers professionally since 2014. From 2014-2021 I worked for NBC Sports Northwest where I was our primary digital producer for all Blazers content. I filmed our locker room interviews, traveled on the road, wrote articles, hosted TV shows... You name it. I did it. From watching Zach Collins debut in Summer League, to watching Rodney Hood save the Blazers in four overtimes, to storming the court after Damian Lillard's "Bad Shot," you name a Blazers moment and I was there to cover it and gather content for NBC. When NBC folded in 2021, I had to find my next endeavor and I found it with iHeart Media and Rip City Radio. For the past two seasons I have been Rip City Radio's primary Trail Blazers voice, hosting Courtside Monday, Blazers Gameday, and the long-running postgame show, The 5th Quarter. It was a blast, but unfortunately that journey came to an end over the summer. "Where do I go from here?" I asked myself. The answer: Ten toes in where my feet already are. I had started The 19:77 a few years ago, but episodes were very sporadic. Hard to get done when all my Blazers time was focused on live radio shows. Now, however, time and focus has allowed me to pour the same passion and energy that I poured into my previous stops into my own personal projects! In short, now is my time to make The 19:77 great! So, what is The 19:77? It's a podcast dedicated to all things Trail Blazers, of course. The twist, if you can call it that, is that it’s a quick hitter — running 19 minutes and 77 seconds (20 minutes and 17 seconds for you nerds) in honor of the 1977 NBA Champions! You can expect professional takes, insight, and knowledge from someone who not only has more than a decade of professional experience, but is a true Portland kid. I was born and raised in Portland, attended Centennial High School, and my current address still reads "Portland, Or." I grew up watching and loving the Trail Blazers. I have been blessed to cover them for so long, and am grateful I get to continue to do so. If there is one takeaway I can give you about my approach to covering the team it's this. I will never forget what it means to be a fan. I have always loved sports, and that is why I wanted to become a sports journalist. That love, and what it means and feels like to be a fan is never lost on me. It allows me to be in your shoes and know how you feel through every high and every low. My only hope is that my love for this city, this team and you, the fans, conveys to the airwaves and the pages of Rose City Central. Thanks for reading. I'll see you on the next one. A longtime staple of the Trail Blazers Podcast scene, the Trailcasters makes its triumphant return with Rose City Central! Often you hear origin stories that sound made up. "We started in a basement with nothing but a hope and a dream." Well, Trailcasters basically did that. In the early 2010's, Keith Feltner-Smith started the podcast shortly after Damian Lillard was drafted by Portland, as an outlet for his Rip City fandom. There was no fancy set up. No bells and whistles. Just a laptop set up to record audio while Keith stood at his kitchen counter, the sounds of his Trail Blazers takes echoing off classic Trail Blazers pint glasses. Keith's fandom was always rooted in Rip City, but it blossomed when he moved back to Portland in the early 2000's and watched the Brandon Roy/Lamarcus Aldridge era start. He still hold his No.7 Jersey, the first he ever got, close to his heart. Keith has had many different hosts over the years, including Rose City Central founder Chris Burkhardt, but no matter who is behind the mic, the mission stays the same: To tell Trail Blazers stories and share hot takes through the eyes of a fans. Joining Keith this time around is Dave Myers. Myers grew up in Beaverton, following the Blazers though the Clyde/TP/Kersey/Buck/Duck era. He re-routed to the Bay Area in 2015, but lucky for us, his Trail Blazers love followed. Despite living in the heart of Warriors Country, he makes sure League Pass is locked on to Rip City! Like Keith, his love of all things Portland Trail Blazers will easily be heard on every episode of The Trail Casters this season!

"Bust-A-Bucket. Bust-Bust-A-Bucket." A song lyric that will forever live in the brains of Trail Blazers fans... and a song that comes to mind when you hear the title of the Busted Bucket podcast! It doesn't get much more Portland than that. Busted Bucket started in 2020 as an escape from the pressures of the pandemic. Tim and his buddy were frontline healthcare workers, navigating the ever changing and uncertain scenario brought by COVID-19. Both of them grew up with the Blazers, and discussed games regularly. So what better way to escape the daily stress they were facing than to create a podcast to share with the world? The name is an homage to Bust-a-Bucket, which many Rip City fans know all too well. The show began as a recap show, hosted by two lifelong friends and Blazer fans. Through the years a lot of the show has evolved. What used to be a weekly recap show is now a show focused on peeling back the curtain with narrative episodes and interviews focusing on the human aspect of sports, athletes, and events. Busted Bucket is a raw and genuine show. Unfiltered. Unabridged. Hearing "The Scoop with Jamie Hudson and Chris Burkhardt" might bring back a few memories. Years ago, The Scoop was where we hung out before tip-off and after the final buzzer with Blazers fans live on Facebook and on Comcast SportsNet Northwest's website. It was where we talked Blazers basketball, shared stories from around the team, broke down the night's biggest moments, and connected with the best fans in the NBA. Those shows eventually came to an end. But the conversations never did. Now, we're bringing The Scoop back. Hey Everyone! I'm Jamie and I'm so excited to be joined once again by my friend and former Comcast SportsNet Northwest teammate, Chris Burkhardt. Over the years, we've been lucky enough to cover the Trail Blazers from courtside, inside locker rooms, at practices, on road trips, and through some unforgettable moments in franchise history. We've watched playoff runs, celebrated incredible performances, witnessed rebuilding seasons, and experienced all the highs and lows right alongside Rip City. While our careers have taken us in different directions, one thing has never changed—our dedication to covering this team, this city, and the fans who make Portland one of the best basketball communities anywhere. That's why bringing back The Scoop felt right. This podcast is a chance to pick up where we left off.
